Play Ride‘s aim is to provide comprehensive, personalized mountain bike skills instruction courses. Play Ride will provide you the tools to improve your riding skills, establish confidence and to enjoy more your mountain bike rides.

Play Ride’s courses and services are designed for the everyday rider, from beginner (0-1 year of experience: Level 1) to intermediate (1-3 years of experience: Level 2)

Play Ride’s mission is to encourage more people (alone, with friends or with family) to enjoy mountain biking with safety and confidence.

Level One

Beginners Mountain Bike Skills Course (Level 1)
Location: Seih Sou
Course Start Time: 10:30 am
Course End Time: 1:00 pm (approx)

The aims and objectives of this days course are to introduce the beginner to the basic techniques required in off road mountain biking. The intention of the course is to deliver quality instruction at a level suited to the participant so as to equip the individual or group with the skills necessary to ride many of the bridleways, towpaths & selective trails.

Experience You Will Need:
No Mtb experience is necessary. However, you must be able to ride your bike on flat & even ground before the start of the skills course. The skills course will start with a safe cycle check. On the course you will be given instruction and demonstrations of all the obstacles covered throughout the days activities. The instructor will endeavor to adapt or progress each section according to the persons individual riding ability.

4-6 riders: €30/rider

Skills courses start at 10:30 am in the car park at Seih Sou and finish at 1:00 pm approximately.

Fitness Level:

You will need a basic level of fitness which will allow you to take part in this physical activity for the duration of the course. However, you will have the chance to recover at regular intervals due to the structure of the days activities. The day will be centred around demonstration, with individuals practicing several techniques to reinforce the learning process. If you are unsure of your fitness level please contact us. I am always happy to offer advice on fitness training.

Level Two

Intermediate Mountain Bike Trail Skills Course (Level 2)
Location: Seih Sou

The aims and objectives of this days course are to introduce the more advanced techniques required in off road mountain biking. The intention of the course is to deliver quality instruction at a level suited to the participant so as to equip the individual or group with the skills necessary to ride technical trail centres and challenging routes of mountainous terrain.

Experience You Will Need:
You should have a basic level of riding skill i.e. braking and gear selection etc. On the course you will be given instruction and demonstrations of all the obstacles covered throughout the days activities. The instructor will endeavor to adapt or progress each section according to the persons individual riding ability.

Fitness Level:
You will need a good level of fitness which will allow you to take part in this physical activity for the duration of the day. However, you will have the chance to recover at regular intervals due to the structure of the days activities. The day will be centerd around demonstration, with individuals practicing several techniques to reinforce the learning process. If you are unsure of your fitness level please contact us. Mountain bike skills course
Mountain bike coaching and training for beginners. This mountain bike skills course is ideal for anyone who is new to the sport of mountain biking and will provide the foundations for you to become a safe and confident off road rider.
The price quoted is for a 1 to 1 mountain bike lesson or will be limited to a course solely for you and your friends or family.
This more personal service will ensure that you will get the tuition you have paid for and you will not be placed with riders of mixed ability, which can be intimidating to newcomers. A 1 to 1 mountain bike skills course will see you develop much more quickly than a group session.

The Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme (MIAS) Level 1 and 2 leadership qualification is aimed at people wishing to lead groups in mountain bike activities. The qualification is widely used by the following organisations: independent mountain bike guides, mountain bike holiday companies, teachers, military personnel, police service, youth leaders and scout leaders. The qualification will allow the successful award holder to lead and instruct adults and children on technical and non-technical ground within Europe. The ratios of 1:6 should be adhered to at all times & the award holder must hold a current valid first aid qualification to operate as a leader / instructor. The course is a recognised qualification and is validated through the NVQ Awarding Body of NCFE.

The course has accreditaion with: The Association of British Cycle Coaches, Cyclists Touring Club (CTC), The Adventure Activities Licencing Authority (AALA), Learning Outside The Classroom Badge and the NVQ Awarding Body of NCFE.

The level 1 mountain bike leader / instructor qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of individuals in non-technical terrain (forest tracks, canal towpaths etc).

The level 2 mountain bike leader / instructor qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of individuals in technical and demanding terrain.

Please Note:

Mountain Bike Leader / Instructor courses are limited to a maximum of 8 participants.

All participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

All participants must provide their own mountain bikes, which must be in good working order.

All participants must provide their own cycling helmet, glasses, gloves and appropriate cycling clothing.

MIAS LEVEL 1 & LEVEL 2 MOUNTAIN BIKE LEADER QUALIFICATIONS

The combined training and assessment takes place over 2 days. The first day will cover, risk assessments & legal issues. Safe cycle checks, personal & group equipment, personal riding skills at level one, & basic emergency repairs whilst on route, & group management relating to the leadership of groups in the outdoors.

Day two will cover weather forecasts & sources, level two personal riding skills & personal coaching of individuals, & navigation whilst on route. A copy of the student information pack will be sent to you when you book on the course. This will cover the theory subjects prior to the course dates.

Candidates who wish to be assessed at level 2 must be able to demonstrate strong off road skills including steep drop offs up to 1/2 metre, decending / braking in a controlled manner, effective hill climbing and pedalling techniques. It is unlikely that these skills would be gained if the candidate has been riding for less than 12 months in rough terrain. If candidates do not possess these off road skills, they should attend our beginners and intermediate courses.

At the end of the training / assessment, successful candidates will have their log books signed by the course tutor.

On receipt of booking a student information pack with details of the course syllabus, course location, will be posted to you prior to attending the assessment course.
